This theme is very much appropriate and establishes the pivotal role of nurses in facing a wide range of health challenges, including the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the world 20-plus million nurses are performing their duties in tough and hazardous conditions. The pandemic situation has revealed the weakness of many healthcare systems and immediate action must be taken to strengthened existing global deficit. COVID-19 is forcing nurses to work under great physical and psychological strain, in situations where a deficiency of proper equipment is increasing the fear and causing emotional stress among them.

All over the world the public have taken initiative to express their gratitude for nurses. We as team of the Malaysian Journal of Nursing through this issue would like to join hands in thanking nurses for their great performance as they continue to nurse the world to health. When the virus took away all the hope from our life then the nurses showed us what is most important for us all “life, people and those we love”.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the world has realised the value of nurses and other healthcare workers. So, immediate action must be taken to strengthen the health care systems in each and every country to combat this deadly menace.
