Abstract

The progress in medicine has given rise to various multifaceted ethical issues. By ethical issue we mean the moralistic dilemma that a medical practitioner experiences during a difficult situation when the decision between the good or right thing is to be taken. Nurses occupy a unique position in the social strata. They are a part of a multi-disciplinary team. Many years back the first "code of ethics" was put forward by Florence Nightingale. The behaviors that are accepted as ethical in nursing practice are those comprising of matters regarding nurses' relationships with "people", "practice", "profession", and "co-workers". As the field of medicine is becoming more advanced, the public expectations for high-quality nursing care is rising day to day. Due to the lack of proper research, the actual burden has not been clearly implicit. Thus it is the duty of the nurses to realize their moral commitments. They should be capable of dealing with both easy and desperate circumstances.

Therefore the Malaysian Journal of Nursing attempts to explore these ethical issues among vanous measures adopted by the medical practitioners. The journal tries to investigate the delicate subjects like child mortality and the role of the adolescent in research work. The journal also includes articles dealing with critical matters like cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and enlighten knowledge distribution among nurses about breast feeding. And last but not the least it also discusses the impending matters relating to the job satisfaction among nurses. Thus the Malaysian Journal of Nursing is an exclusive periodical that treats varied topics m the field of nursing and health sciences with the discovery of ethical perspectives.
