MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Abstract
As a fresh start nears with the beginning of 2017, there is a deep reection of the past and hope for the future. Resolutions are created by people across the globe, hoping to allow the dawn of a new year to represent a new self. Yet before the paint has even dried, we so instantly forget to admire the image of our own goals and dreams, cutting off progress for the sake of obscure obligations and grim responsibilities. A hospital, by its very environment, is not a place for the well - within its walls lie infection and inrmity; death and disease; hope tainted with fear and love tarnished with loss. But even in such conditions nurses must work to make their passionate and impossible dreams a reality, because far too many remain trapped in a nightmare. The Malaysian Journal of Nursing thrives to provide an exemplar framework to support excellence in nursing care and portray the potential benets with respect to excellence in nursing care.
The challenges faced by the nursing profession do not ensure that the core principles of dignity, respect, compassion and person centered care will be preserved. Therefore to regain the public and professional condence in nursing, nurse leaders, managers and educators play a pivotal role in improving the image of nursing. High quality nursing care can only be achievable by making sure that nurse managers, leaders and educators are able to respond to the complexity of reform and change by leading, managing, enabling, allowing, encouraging and resourcing staff to be innovative and entrepreneurial in their practice. Thus building healthcare environments that facilitate excellence in nursing care can only be possible by developing genuine working partnerships and collaborations between nurse managers, leaders and educators and their associated organizations. The signicance of adopting an authentic sustainable leadership approach to facilitate and support frontline staff with regard to innovations and changes is crucial to restore that nurses do care and are excellent at what they do. As a result by focusing on the resources it is necessary to create a healthcare environment that enables compassion, safety and excellence in nursing care. The Malaysian Journal of Nursing in this manner continues its journey to excellence in the eld of nursing.
