Abstract

The surrounding in which we are living is changing drastically so it becomes important for us to change our preconceived notions. The way nursing as a profession had been looked at from ages has changed now drastically. It is now all about research studies, practical knowledge usage of high tech devices, implementation of electronic health records and many more. Nursing as a profession focuses on proper medical support and care. It's an exciting time to be a part of the healthcare industry. With changes in care delivery, technological advances and increased patient expectations, the role of nurses as healthcare professionals is growing and evolving. Nursing as a profession is associated with compassion, critical thinking and excellent clinical skills. Significant changes are noticed in terms of where nurses work, how they deliver care and many more. Since nurses find themselves facing challenges they need to concentrate more on education and training in order to face the new challenges in the medical field. Hospitals across the country are implementing a “triple aim” of improved quality, at lower costs, which gives better patient experiences. Nurses are hence required to possess complex knowledge of patients and be prepared with new competencies in areas like leadership, evidence-based practice and collaboration. The healthcare system is undergoing massive changes. Nurses are a source of partnership and expertise. Elements like value-based purchasing, meaningful use and the affordable care are causing hospitals to focus heavily on improving and sustaining patient outcomes to stay afloat. There is a real push for quality, and hospitals are reporting improved patient outcomes where change is led by nurses on the frontline. The profession of nursing is changing with the incorporation of ambulating surgery centers and retail clinics. They are serving patients outside the hospital premises, so nurses now have better job opportunities than in the past. The Malaysian journal of nursing thus focus on giving students the practical skills that modern nurses need to deliver with patient-centered care through systems-based practice. Readers can learn more about this flexible, affordable degree and how it can help to advance their career. The MJN publishes articles that are continuously progressing knowledge and understanding of all aspects of nursing, healthcare, research and management policy.
