MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Abstract
As technology advances, so does its influence in healthcare. The discovery like Sphygmomanometer, portable defibrillator, ultrasound, remote monitoring, RFID have flooded medical field. The concept of nursing has evolved far beyond the traditional definition. Apart from physical care the nurses create a mental bond with the patients and along with this new grasp is ethnically diverse and tech-savvy. The nurses create and nurture an intimate bond with the patient and family through a constant presence. When a patient experiences overt distress or deteriorates suddenly, the nurse is likely to be the first one on the scene. It's the nurse who detects subtle changes in vital signs or behaviour that signal a serious or life-threatening event. Nurses' highly skilled, competent, compassionate care help to prevent the patients' functional decline, eliminate knowledge deficits for the patients. Technology in nursing has increased patient satisfaction, overall outcomes, reduced clinical errors and decreased the amount of paperwork that nurses were once required to perform. Electronic charting has replaced charts with pen and paper. Most nurses now review information, fill out charts online and it has reduced the gap between the nurses and the patient-parties. The Malaysian Journal of Nursing has taken the responsibility to exhibit this changing scenario in the arena of nursing. This present issue will help to bridge the gap between clinical science and clinical practice in nursing which has got the advance touch of technology for the betterment of public health. Kind support and acceptance from all for making our attempt successful is highly prayed for.
