A high-risk pregnancy is defined as one that is marked by unfavorable personal or social variables, as well as specific complications or comorbidities that have the potential to endanger the health of both the pregnant woman and her fetus, possibly resulting in difficult labor. Due to a constantly changing society and unfavorable environmental conditions, the incidence of gestational diabetes, hypertension, and other health issues among pregnant women has consistently increased. This has significantly compromised the safety of both mothers and infants. As a result, it is critical to thoroughly understand and analyze both local and foreign instances of high-risk pregnancies, while also suggesting appropriate control strategies. Methods: The literature on the occurrence and management of high-risk pregnancies at home and overseas was retrieved and summarized. Results: As the social and cultural environment changed, the number of older pregnancies increased, and more women with a history of cesarean section faced pregnancy and childbirth, resulting in an increased risk of high-risk pregnancies, a significant cause of maternal death. High-risk pregnancy has caused a severe impact on pregnant women’s physical, psychological, and mental health. Managing high-risk pregnancy has achieved remarkable results but also faces many difficulties. Conclusion: Optimizing the management approach for high-risk pregnancy has always been a focal point in maternal healthcare, and it has been extensively discussed for enhancement. The adjustment of fertility policies has resulted in an increasing number of high-risk pregnancies. Therefore, it is essential to fully understand and analyze the current situation of high-risk pregnancies and how they are managed, along with making suggestions and improvements that deal with the current problems in managing high-risk pregnancies which leads to providing new ways to protect the health of both mothers and children.
