Nurses play key role in Heath for All: everyone, everywhere
World Health Day 2019 focuses on the theme “Heath for All: everyone, everywhere”. In this occasion International Council of Nurses (ICN) is putting forward their International Nurses Day resources under the theme Nurses: A Voice to Lead Health for All.
Nursing is a major health profession across the world. Nurses are working in all the fields where health care is provided. Nursing has massive possibilities and value if properly executed. But in the present scenario half of the world’s population have no access to basic healthcare necessities. In this respect ICN promotes health as a right for people, as a foundation of social justice and as driver of economic growth.
According to World Health Organization health workers are the voice for their patients. Supporting this view ICN proposes that health workers must unite and support health for all. Health workers have the authority to change people’s lives with quality health advice and care. They can help their patients to take care of their own health. Health workers in this manner play a vital role in learning about patients’ needs and teaching them to stay healthy. In this respect nurses and midwives are the pillar of every health system. They constitute a major portion of the global health workforce and are significant for fulfilling the vision of universal health coverage (UHC). So, to achieve UHC and the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 more and more nursing man power is necessary to fill this critical gap. The Malaysian Journal of Nursing thrives to help the nurses in this endeavor by publishing quality articles that contributes towards the advancement of the health care system.
